I was wondering if anyone can attest to the feasibility of finding a PGY-1 training spot in psychiatry in the months after the match. Where would one find out about openings? I have emailed all the programs that I interviewed with during this past cycle and several responded along the lines that they were surprised that I did not match somewhere and that they would keep me in mind should a spot open up. I have also paid for a subscription to ResidentSwap.org. What else should I be doing?

Thank you!

This following idea may sound a bit risky and/or likely to cause narcissistic injury, but it has a small chance of paying off. You can contact any programs where you had a decent interview and let them know that you did not Match. I am aware of an instance in which some funds were freed up post-Match (a more senior resident departed unexpectedly), and the program used these funds to take an unMatched applicant.

The odds are slim that this will work out... but you never know.
