Hello,

How difficult is it to find an academic pediatric heme / onc and/or cardiology position? Are you typically forced to move? Do a decent amount of options exist in "desirable" cities (Seattle, Denver, NYC, Chicago, etc.).

Difficult to answer the question because of the nuances involved. For example if you are a peds cardiologist are you a general cardiologist, a cath guy, imaging, critical care? For hem/onc, do you mainly do heme or onc? Which types of tumors specifically? Any department, especially at the big academic centers will have different availabilities or needs, and it depends on what you can bring to the department or program. It doesn't have to mean research, just an area of expertise or interest to which you can contribute.

There are certainly jobs out there for people who do it all, but it really depends on where. Maybe some of the others on this forum can comment further.
