Finding out a program's board pass rate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
its the CORE exam now guys and overall pass rate was around 87% I believe. Chill, its high. Most big city academic programs = 100%

You have to really suck to fail.

so 13 % really suck? doesn't make sense. most of the class sizes I've seen are like 8-10 so that's 1 person per class roughly.

Do you really think they'll just tell you their failure rate? In my city of many residencies no one failed. Solid academic programs no one fails.

I do not have the data but a little snooping around I came to understand smaller community programs who don't have much teaching suffered the most

You can draw your conclusions. Brohan.

thats the entire point. anything less than 100 % is a red flag.

I'm not looking to parse between 70 and 90 %, I'm looking to parse from 100 % to not 100 % which will be obvious as they will either say 100, something less than 100 or deflect the question, because like you said at solid academic programs no one fails. Either of the last 2 responses would be a red flag for me

Board pass rate is important for small community and academic programs. When I was a resident and there was oral boards, I remember one of the top programs maybe MIR had people who failed their board in multiple consecutive years. Are you going to rank them low just because their pass rate is less than 100% ?

not necessarily but it's one of many factors that someone may incorporate in their decision.

As I mentioned It is just one indicator of the quality of education in a program. If you know that a program has good and solid quality of education, it should not be a factor.

Just like the USMLE, a significant portent of this exam is self studying and utilizing the appropriate materials.

What may be more important is find out what the program does for the 3rd year residents studying for the exam (off call pool, easier rotations, half days, core reviews, pay for core review courses, etc).
