Hi everyone,

I took organic chemistry 1 & 2 in 2011 (Barely passed with a C in both). And I have now forgotten everything ! I was watching Chad's videos and whatever he says sounds like another language to me ! I take the test April 15th. I am doing fairly well in the remaining subjects but organic chemistry goes right above my head. How do I prepare for that section? My resources that I have are:

1) Chad's videos
2) DAT Destroyer (didn't get the odyssey version too much $)
3) DAT Bootcamp

Thanks for your help

Try listening to Chad's videos multiple times. Also, check out http://www.masterorganicchemistry.com (It's FREE!!!) This website explains concepts in a very simple language. However, remember that organic chemistry is not an easy subject, so it's okay if something doesn't make sense to you at first.. just keep looking at it/reading it/doing problems, and eventually, it will come to you. I really don't think there's any other source better than Chad or this website, but if you still have your college textbooks, make use of those as well! It sounds like you never got to learn orgo, and in order to do well on DAT, you have to learn it! You'll get there with patience and hard, hard work! 😉 Good luck!

Watch the videos and take notes. Repeatedly review the notes you take. Do all of DAT destroyer and understand why the answers are wrong for the ones you go wrong. Make sure you understand sn2 sn1 e1 e2 and how nucleophiles and electrophiles work and mean.

Honestly, you should be able to listen to and understand Chad's videos even if your background in organic chemistry is weak or a distant memory (although I recommend watching most of his general chemistry videos first to get a better conceptual foundation). He works through the material pretty slowly and without making assumptions on outside existing knowledge. Make sure you review the videos thoroughly and in the correct order, and repeat concepts you find you haven't fully absorbed yet (or consult an outside source).

To help with learn, use klein organic chemistry books. They are FANTASTIC. Then supplement with DAT Destroyer.....also an amazing resource. Know destroyer inside and out and you will do just fine!

Thank you all for your help ! I think I am going to start learning from Klein's book ! And then watch Chad's videos. Also, use the mastering org. chem website. Again, thanks so much !

I think the resources you have are all you need. Check out my orgo section breakdown for some tips. Those are all I used and I sucked at orgo in school.
