This will be a pretty quick breakdown but I will answer any questions that people might have.
Scores:
PAT 23 (96.4%)
QR 21 (96.4%)
RC 24 (94%)
BIO 19 (76.6%)
GC 21 (87%)
OC 23 (94.4%)
TS 21 (91.6%)
AA 22 (97%)
First off, dentistry will be my second career. I have worked as an engineer for the past four years. I quit working to finish my prereqs and spent two months studying for the DAT. I took the DAT on 2/14/13. I used the following to study:
Chad's videos (OC and GC)
Dat Destroyer- barely used this. I ran out of time and was very discouraged.
Datqvault GC and BIO
Cliff's AP Biology and KBB
Topscore
Math Destroyer
The best resources for me were Chad's videos (no surprise) and datqvault.
Bio: Cliff's and KBB were not enough. I scored half 19's and half 20's on datqvault and got a 19 on the real thing. For those about to take the test, definitely do more than Cliff's (read it twice) and KBB. I wanted to do the campbell's slides but ran out of time
GC: Chad's videos and datqvault for practice.
OC: Chad's videos
QR: Math destroyer was good but practice a lot. Things change a lot when the pressure is on.
RC: I numbered my sheet 1- 50 then read the first three questions and wrote a keyword next to the corresponding number. I read a few paragraphs and then answered a few questions. As I answered questions, I would mark them off on my sheet. This is my strategy. I can go further into detail if anyone is interested. Topscore has no tone/inference questions but the real thing does.
PAT: Crack dat . I wanted to do achiever but ran out of time. I read on SDN about proportions being a factor on the real DAT and keeping that in mind is what helped me do well in this section.
My main advice for taking the exam is to focus on one question at a time for the entire test. Do not think about what your score might be or if you could have studied more. Focus on eliminating obvious wrong answers and stay positive. I know this isn't the most detailed breakdown but my wife and I had our second daughter 5 days ago so I am a little busy. I would love to help anyone that I can to ask questions and I will try to respond as quickly as possible. This website has been a blessing to me. The advice that I have read on here has been invaluable and I would love the opportunity to pay it forward.
I also have a few questions about a few schools. I am from the south and plan on applying to my state school and a few other schools in the south. The schools that I may be reaching for are UNC, Harvard and Pacific. I have around 100 shadowing and volunteer hours and a ~3.5 sGPA. Again, this is my second career as I am switching from engineering to dentistry. Thanks for any advice and good luck to all!
