How many of you guys are finishing up this year? Are you finding it difficult to find jobs? What are the jobs setup (MD only, MD with crna supervision) like?

Just curious.

Noy,

A graduating anesthesiologist who can't find a good job in this market deserves to sit in a trailer here in New Orleans with the people who come back here looking for handouts.

There are so many opportunities in New Orleans right now for unskilled labor that there is no excuse for being unemployed here.

If you are unemployed as an anesthesiologist/If you an unskilled person, unemployed in New Orleans/

you have noone to blame but yourself.

No worries Think, I was just curious. i have been out of teh job hunt for 2 years now and I wanted to know how it was going for some of the new grads. Thats all.

I'm finishing at the end of June. Already signed a sweet deal with Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. They are one of the hospitals affiliated with my program. The recent downfall of the Western Pennsylvania Anesthesia Associates (old group who ran our residency) has improved the environment here for anesthesiologists and CRNAs alike, in my opinion. Looking very much forward to starting work.

BTW - I'm starting immediately after graduating, prior to the ABA exam. How many others are starting that soon, I wonder. Am I crazy? I feel like I need the money too much, and I am certainly worried less about the written exam than I am about the oral exam.

I did the same thing. My group had cases for me on the first July 1, and looking at the schedule, we needed the manpower in a big way. Group paid me overtime for being willing to come in a few weeks early. Just make sure you have studied enough for the boards. The questions this year on the second half of the exam will likely be as detailed as they were last year, which was the first year that the board started using more 2nd and 3rd order questions.
