Step I First Aid 2003 vs 2006

Hey guys

Would you recommend I buy the 2006 version of FA? I have the 2003 version and am planning on writing the Step I this summer.

get the new one. FA is updated each year based on the previous year's tests. also, the 2006 version switches over to an organ system-based approach, which many people prefer.

If you're a 1st year student, and start out with FA 2006 as a guide throughout the 1st two years, would it become outdated by the time the usmle rolled around? It's a waste working in/on FA 2006 and then using FA 2008 to start over again?

What's the best approach? Should one be using FA at all the first year of med school?

I don't think (opinion) you should sell yourself short with FA in your first year. FA just is a cookbook and bunch of lists aimed at sucess on one exam. Learn your first year stuff well and completely and then use FA next year to review (you will have plenty of time to mark it up in your second year)...you will be much better off. I would, however, get BRS Path and BRS Physio to use in your first year courses...take good notes in them so that they are primed for review the following year and they will also help focus your 1st year studies. Do NOT use them to replace Robbins and Guyton.
