Anyone use these videos (links w/ sample videos below)? Is so, feedback please! Are they like the Kaplan videos?

The first aid folks (usmle-rx.com) made videos to correspond with the FA text. One set of videos is called "express", the other "ultimate". The website does a poor job of differentiating between them, but after emailing them I understand that the "express" is ~50 hrs, while the "ultimate" is ~100 hrs. (the website indicates "express" as >100 hours, but it is really 50. You have access to previous years' editions of videos, which are also 50 hours...so thats how they advertise >100). The "ultimate" videos are more in depth and taught by faculty/fellows. The "express" is more concise and taught by medical students.

I'm leaning toward getting the ultimate....but I haven't heard of a soul who has used it.

I will read first aid to you for 300 dollars.

Hi I've used both for 2012 edition and 2011 edition - I don't recommend either one if you are looking for an indepth explanation of First Aid.

If you want a bit of clarificaiton for some the charts/graphs, etc. than it might be helpful but overall it is not really worth your time.

I.e. the micro section was by far the worst, the lecturer just pretty much reads everything word by word....also for alot of the pharm sections they breeze over or skip over.

I think it is better to spend your money on DIT or another course that actually engages you, etc. THe only good thing is that the videos are really short (like 8-10 minutes each)

The in depth videos are just extra lecturers lecturing on additional topics..

I havent heard of anyone using those videos. But my advice would be to grab other video courses, like kaplan and use your FA book to review some high yield or get some summarized subjects.

I can tell you that the Qmax question bank that they offer is pretty good (with a few questions now and then that are very wtf?!).

I just want to continue this thread since I'm interested in FA Ultimate and Express as well.

Has anyone actually tried Ultimate? I know it's pretty different than FA Express (faculty videos instead of students) but has anyone given it a shot? There is also a sneak peak price of $199 right now (which is the same price as FA Express for a 12 month subscription). Will we have to pay an additional price come next spring? I feel that this course should be priced around the $500-$700 range (since it tries to mimic other courses like DIT)...

Has anyone given it a go?

Thanks a lot!

No that's unnecessary, but I appreciate your help.

Do they hit a lot of the FA topics? I emailed usmle-rx and they said that they still have a few more videos to add.

I've seen the express and it involves a lot of reading first aid and someone saying, "you'll need to spend some time learning this chart/table" while they skip it.

I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone pay for it because it costs so much, but if there was some magic way to get it for free, or you just have so much money you don't know what to do with it, it could be a good structured way to get a single run-through of first aid for those of us that don't like the idea of just reading a book like first-aid.

They do have a 'sample' on their Ultimate site (and it seems pretty thorough if you flip to those sections in FA).

If all their Ultimate videos are like that, then yeah, I think $200 for it seems like a good deal. I just would like more information. Contacted usmle-rx about it and this is and they said that the ultimate videos have more information (compared to Express) and that they will add a few more videos soon.

I tried the ultimate. They follow topics from Firefox well but they present them in a custom way if it makes any sense. Look am not sure if it is legal to do so but I can let you borrow my account to study the ultimate set. PM me.

Hey DocBurg,

Can you tell me more about these videos pls?? I want to get a copy...thanks
