Hello SDN.

I just took a full length on Bootcamp. Score is:
Bio- 19
Chem- 22
Ochem- 19
PAT- 18
QR- 20
RC- less than 15 (21/50)

I ran out of time by quite a large margin for both RC and PAT... I currently use search and destroy method for RC. I look at the questions first then go back to the passage to find the answers. Should I use a different strategy?

For prep, I did all of the Chad chem videos, and most of the Chad ochem videos. I read about 1/3 of Cliffnotes for bio. I did buy DAT destroyers but I haven't gone through them yet. My test is next Wednesday (8/2), should I postpone the test date? If not, what do you guys recommend me doing for the next 10 days?

Thank you all!

Don't panic. How did you do on the 2009 DAT practice tests? That's a better indicator of how you will probably perform.

I haven't done it yet. I am planning on taking the five bootcamp exams then take the 2009 practice test two days before the actual exam...

For biology, have you done any other preparation? 1/3 through Cliff's with roughly a week until your test date would have me pretty concerned since there's still a good chunk of material left to cover. Are you a bio major with a strong foundation already?

I just graduated with a biochem and cell bio degree so I'm fairly confident in mol/cell bio, genetics, and evolution. I do need to improve on taxonomy, anatomy and physiology, and ecology. I'm currently studying these topics right now with your notes and Cliff 4th edition!

Try to get your hands on the 3rd edition if possible (should be available for free online in PDF form). The 4th edition removed some stuff that is covered on the DAT but not the AP bio exam anymore (I think animal diversity and plants?).

Even though it's just the first test, clearly S and D doesn't work with you too well for RC. My first RC score was around yours doing the same search and destroy method, so I tried a few other methods suggested on BC and ended-up getting the best results from just reading the whole passage, highlighting generously, and then doing the questions in one go. Even though it might affect your next BC test, I'd say pick a new strategy and try it out on a RC subject test; better to figure out your methodology earlier rather than later.

You probably need more time if you want to score in the 20s. You should thoroughly utilize all the basic resources before jumping into the real DAT because you may feel unprepared.

Get to Destroyer asap, knowing what I know and if you were my own child I would say the same thing..

Don't delay and if you can't complete the Destroyer and feel confident, I would definitely consider rescheduling. The Destroyer will prepare you for whatever comes you way.

Hope this helps.

read this post and avoid a retake

Retaking DAT in late October

Did some biology and ochem questions from destroyer as well as read a lot more Feralis notes+Cliff notes.

Some update:
Took 2 full lengths today and yesterday.
(BIO/GC/OC/RC/QR/PAT)
Bookcamp 2- (17/21/20/17/20/20)
Bookcamp 3- (19/26/21/21/22/21)

Seeing improvements, especially RC. I find mapping works extremely well for me. Still had to guess on the last few question though..
