AMCAS generates its own idea of if you are first generation based on your parents' education (regardless of if you called yourself first generation elsewhere). With a parent's A.S. you are not, but clearly AMCAS is being weird about it. Don't worry about it.
Neither my parents received a high school education yet my AMCAS first generation status is unknown because they received their education from another country. Don't be alarmed. I am sure ADCOMS are aware of AMCAS labeling system.

Literally exact same situation!
I called AMCAS about this and they said because my parents received what little education they did from another country, AMCAS can't determine if we're first gen. (which is kind of weird, but ok). She told me it's basically up to each individual medical school to determine if the applicant is first gen or not, so I'm not particulary worried, as it's relatively obvious. Point being med schools use their own interpretation.
