I just finished my first pre-med course, Gen Chem 1. Got an A. I absolutely loved this course. If ice-storm didn't stop our lives in NC that much, I think I could've made A+, I was close.

I am going to work as a volunteer TA for this course next semester.

My plan was that if I do well on the first one, I will move on with my plan..otherwise drop med school plan. Now, I am looking forward to taking org. chem next semester and so on.

Not to be arrogant or anything, I am very confident that I can do well in all my post-bacc courses. But what hurts me is that in the end my undergrad sub 3.0 GPA will still kill me? I am hoping to take 2 or 3 extra classes beyond post-bacc to repair my record a little more.

Take care all and happy christmas, happy holidays, happy newyear.

Regards,
Shahab

congrats- keep up the good work

Congrats from a fellow undergrad.

Hi all:

I know its a bit off the topic. But If I take Org. Chem 1 with lab and Gen Chem II (without lab) in Spring, would that be a bad combo? I have a fulltime job and 2 year old daughter.

I was planning to take those two courses and finish the lab of Gen. Chem II later sometime. In our school (NCSU) you can take the lab seperately for Gen Chem I, and II.

Ah! maybe I will take bio and gen chem together. I have heard Org. Chem is hard..we'll see in spring!

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I would not take Organic I&II in the same semester. Organic was a much harder course than Gen Chem. By all means celebrate your A in the course, but do not get arrogant as it is actually one of the more easy classes in the premed sequence. Organic Chemistry and Physics were much harder and time consuming for me.

I agree, while I havent had physics yet, I have fallen into the trap of becoming very confident after an A in one course and then taking on way too much as a result. Stay focused on a nice smooth path.

Congratulations on your A, but I agree with the others. Chem. gets harder. You don't want to take on too much and potentially sacrifice your GPA for it.

Again, congratulations! 🙂

Now all that's left is Gen Chem II, Organic Chem I and II, Intro to Bio I and II and Physics I and II. 😉

youve got a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong road ahead of you

congrats

Whenever I ask a question to SDN, after reading few responses, I always feel comfortable. It helps me to make the right decision.

So, yeah..I think I am gonna take just org. chem 1. Because pulling all A's is my most important goal right now.

I know Gen. Chem 1 was probably the easiest...but I am mature enough (I think 🙂) not to be arrogant about my A in gen. chem.

Also, since my undergrad was in Electrical Engineering, I have already finished Physics. We had quarter system at U of MN at that time. And I got B, B, and C in the physics. But more importantly, I don't think I remember much. So..I wonder if I should audit Physics I and II. I know I have to pay the tuition..but it might be worthwhile. I could probably do that in a community college too. And no..no..I am not planning to audit it while I am taking Org. Chem 🙂

Thanks folks. You people are simply wonderful..will make good docs I am sure.

If you have the time and you think i'd be worth it, I'd audit it.

If you feel you gleemed what you could from the course and self study would suit you better than do that.

A lot of times you have to trust your gut feeling, I know thats corny but..
