So, my grades this semester as a first semester freshman will be decent.

Right now, I take PSY 1o1, SOC 101, Calculus, Chemistry, and Chemistry Lab for total of 15 credits.

I have all A's in these courses but I might slip down to an A- in chem lab because of bs reasons. Chem lab is 2 credits, so worst case scenario is 3.96 GPA.

My problem is that is this good enough for top tier medical schools? I go to IU bloomington which is an ok school but i want to strive for the top tier medical schools and I plan to transfer to an dingy ivy league or another top 20 school.

No, top tier med schools don't accept GPAs under 3.98

I will be taking honors orgo and calc II to distinguish myself from the pool of applicants. I am an ORM in medicine (asian), so AA will **** me over like it already has

LOL... you got 7 more semesters to go bud. It can either go up... but most likely.. it will go down even further. Hate to disappoint you.

Why do you say your grade may slip down to an A- for "BS reasons?" Rule #1 of being a grown up is taking responsibility for what happens in your life. If you want to go to a top tier med school you should focus on just keeping your gpa >3.8 and start doing some exceptional ECs. ORMs with a 4.0 or close to it and a shiny mcat score are a dime a dozen at the top 20 med schools. Your best shot at a top school is to have exceptionally unique and impressive ECs. Lead a student club, start a new charitable organization in your community, look for research opportunities. Do some good to the world around you and you may one day be at a top 20. If you spend all your time obsessing over getting a 3.95 vs a 3.9, then you aren't getting into a top school.

Honestly, I go to IUB too, and you're not giving the school enough credit. If you apply yourself here and do well on your MCAT, then you will have no problem accumulating top tier interviews. I don't have a single hour of research, and I've still had two interviews at top schools. Also, splitting hairs between a 3.96 and a 4.0 is not worth your time. Channel your pre-med anxiety into volunteering in the community or heading to Jordan Hall to research drosophila.

Yeah honors classes are definitely going to help distinguish you along with pretty much every other premed ever...

There is sarcasm here for those who pile at the bottom of the centrifuge tube.

Wow, four red flags in five lines of text. You're in for a whole lot of frustration and disappointment at this rate.

It's fine to get an A-, it's fine to go to your state flagship. You shouldn't plan to transfer just for a fancier name. AA isn't going to keep you out if you can keep up the GPA, get an MCAT to match, and play the ECs game.

Come back in a couple of years after enjoying your college experience. Go live your god damned life a little bit.

This is exactly what is wrong with so many "Pre-Meds". You need to fix your attitude before you even THINK of becoming a doctor. Looking at your posts makes me cringe.
