Hello everyone,

After years of not figuring out what I wanted to do and shadowing multiple health professions, the only career I I could see myself doing and enjoying is DPT. I will be applying in July, and was wondering what my chances would be?

Stats Below:

GRE: 154 verbal, 150 Quant 4.0 Writing

Undergraduate Degree: BA Biology with a minor in interdisciplinary studies.

Undergraduate GPA: 3.1 Science, 3.3 Non-Science, ~3.2 Cumulative GPA

Graduate Degree: Masters in Public Health (Will be Completed in July)

Graduate GPA: 4.0

estimated PTCAS Science GPA:~3.18

estimated PTCAS Non-Science GPA:~ 3.5

estimated PTCAS overall GPA: ~ 3.3

Pre-Req GPA for most DPT program: 3.5-3. 8 depending on schools requirements.

Experience: 96 hours hospital physical therapy volunteer in outpatient, inpatient, aquatic, and acute rehab. and 40 hours shadowing a private practice DPT.

Other experience: Previously worked as a patient transporter and EKG tech in a hospital.
100 hours volunteering in non PT at hospital, I hold 2 certifications from the NSCA; the CPT and CSCS, I also hold the Crossfit Level 1 Trainer Certificate, and The Crossfit Mobility Trainer Certificate.

SES:
I'm a 26 year old whit male
Thank you
this will be my first time applying so I am nervous.

No joke, you have alot of similarities to my own resume. I have a higher science GPA, lower cumulative GPA, but also attended grad school and currently have a 3.97 (expecting another 2 A's to finish out my grad curriculum). I applied to 11 schools, got into 4 and had interviews or interview requests at 6 of them. I think that if you frame your experience wisely you will be good. I did however, have over 3,200 hours of paid work experience in the field. But I think you'll be ok. Just take advantage of your Masters (I got mine in health promotion) and use it on how your masters will help make you a better PT and contribute positively to the field. If you have any questions, let me know. I was lucky to receive admission to my top school WITH a scholarship.

Similar to sptscsc It's always hard to say. I have a lot of the same stats as u as well. Our gpas are almost identical and i have a lot of the certifications you do some you don't have but u have some I don't all and all I'd say on paper u have same stats as me except one thing hours of time in the pt clinic I have about 200 hrs more unpaid clinic time. I applied to a lot of places and got into none of the ones I considered safety school . And got into ones I considered out of my league... So my only advice is get some more hours in pt volunteer and apply every were you can afford to get an application into.

Thank you for your replies, I'm currently gaining over 8-12 observation hours a week, mostly in aquatic therapy, while finishing up the masters degree. Really hoping I only have to apply this cycle. In addition I will be trying to pick up my CPH and ACSM-PAPHS certification hopefully before I apply as well.
