Hey all,

I need advice on whether I should take my scheduled DAT on April 6th for being the first time to do so or wait until early June instead....i've already rescheduled my test previously this semester because it hasnt been working out with a full load of senior classes and trying to study hardcore for the test. I dont feel anywhere ready for it yet to take it in 2 weeks....my chemistry stuff on practice exams w/ Kaplan are poor....i mean 14's b/c I havent been able to focus ont he material. My courses this semester are pretty tough and I dont want to sacrifice my gpa for the DAT.

I feel like I could have a better grip once this semester is over with the first week of May so then I'd have 3 weeks to study before I start my summer research and a course. Will I be too late for taking the DAT for the first time if i wait? I will go ahead and submit the rest of my app materials June 4th when the cycle opens. I just dont want to have to retake the DAT for not being prepared, if I did have to retake it after taking it in late May, then I could retake it late August....would that possible retake be considered pushing it for interview?

Thanks!

90 days in between retakes. So if you take it in may you can only re take in august.

Honestly, make sure you're ready before taking it. Forgetting the extra 360 bucks you'll have to shell out, the heartbreak of a disappointing score + studying again is just not worth it. If you can't tell that you're ready, do some practice tests to see how you're holding up. If you're hitting 16+ on achiever or 18+ on Topscore you're in pretty good shape. What all have you already done to study? that is another indication of how ready you should feel.

I took the DAT in December and I didn't feel ready, but my practice test scores were decent so I went through. Despite my doubts I did fine, but I did know I did 99% of what I wanted to do to be prepared...I just was having last minute nervousness. If that is the case, do practice tests to verify your readiness. If you genuinely know you didn't do enough, postpone and study hard in the mean-time so you don't have to postpone again!

thanks for the advice. My last practice test was w/ my Kaplan online materials and I got a 16 AA w/ 15 TS.....14s on my chemistry sections. School is just getting in the way of my prep time and I feel like May would be better because it would give 3 weeks of hardcore prep and then that way maybe I wouldnt have to retake it, but if I had to I would have to wait til late August. I've got a test I have to study for for next week and then my scheduled DAT is the week after next and I just dont think I can fit it all in by then. I dont want to take right after my semester finals either b/c I will need a break to clear my head so I'd start back up on studying about May 12th and plan take the DAT 3 weeks later. what do you think?
