Perhaps this thread has already been created, but I don't have the time to do a thorough search. Anyway, my program just started this week and I thought it would be nice to share our first year experiences on this thread. So far I haven't experienced much, but I can say that I have a lot of reading to do and not a lot of time to do it! (perhaps I should then spend less time on the internet.) I should probably start making a list of initial experiences now, but it's getting late. Maybe you'll get the ball rolling...👍

You haven't experienced much! Then what is the story behind the new avatar of the monkey?

I couldn't find a young, handsome monkey!

I'm anticipating a ton of writing ahead of me. Not on an old school typewriter though!

hmmmm...well, my first day of orientation the department heads and professors who spoke with us seemed to have the joint goal of scaring the @#$% out of us in terms of the work load. Then, I got lost. Then, I got yelled at by a campus cop (how dare I try to park there!). I went home and wished for my senior year back and wondered what the heck I was thinking going to grad school.

It's better now. This is my second week in classes and I am loving it! It's a new experience to be in a room where everyone does the reading, is smart, and is passionate about the subject. I am not the only person raising my hand to answer/ask questions anymore. I have felt completely stupid and clueless on several occasions which is not a feeling that I enjoy in the least, but I am already learning a lot.

I haven't visited SDN in 2 weeks due to lack of time, which is another thing to get used to...😱
