1. How did you guys like your first year (if it is over or not) and how was it in comparison to your hardest semester at your undergrad?

2. Were you able to find time to go out on weekends? Did you have time to yourself?

3. How long did it take to adjust to the school? That is: find your way around, etc..?

4. Do you deal with a cadaver in the gross lab?

5. Do you hate your life yet?

😀

1. It's been alright so far...we are still in class (our last exam is July 1st). compared to undergrad, the material is not necessarily much more difficult; it's the ability to handle the course load and time management capabilities that set apart people that do well and those that struggle...there have been stressful times where you literally don't know what to study first, but you can definitely find time to do nothing and relax as well.

2. Absolutely. We have exam blocks roughly every three weeks, so after you're done with a block, you can easily take the next week off form studying to relax/go out etc. Likewise, a week or so prior to a block is usually spent cramming for what's coming up...I guess this definitely depends on your study habits. I prefer to do nothing for a week after exams and then study hard before the block.

3.They do a pretty good job during orientation showing you around so you're pretty much all set as far as finding your way around by the time you start classes...upperclassmen are very friendly and willing to help too...

4. Yes...gross takes up most of your time first semester...students do all the dissecting (about 6-7 ppl per cadaver) which can be very time consuming, but it's an amazing learning experience...

5.Not yet 😉 There were a few stretches this semester when I definitely did, but we have it pretty sweet right now, since we only have 2 classes going on...

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

this makes me nervous and excited at the same time.

I have a question too, i heard that the lecture is very intense and we'll be getting tons of materials everyday, how are you guys doing when it comes to notes taking? You don't print out the powerpoint slices and then write on them right? cuz then you'll be holding tons of papers everyday.

Some people print the powerpoints out and take notes on paper, whille the majority of class brings their laptop to school and take notes directly on the powerpoints...This year they started recording lectures for most classes, so you can always go back and listen to it over and over again, which made things much easier for those of us that generally suck at taking notes (or like skipping class 🙂)

I thought the human cadavers are already dissected at dental school, and students basically go over looking at and around the nerves, muscles, etc. Are you saying that you guys dissected human bodies? Can someone elaborate please?

Yes, you'll be doing all the dissecting yourself...you get a brand new cadaver in September which you share with 6 or so ppl...at Tufts we dissected everything from the waist up, including genitals and pelvis (dental students generally don't dissect legs). We even got graded on how complete our dissections were. I have no clue what students do at other dental schools, this only applies to Tufts.
