FirstAid: how much of it can be a stand-alone review?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i'd say adequate for pharm. also if you memorize the entire behavioral section, that's probably enough behavioral (though you can read brs for some understanding). inadequate for everything else (though not a bad starting point).

I think most people think FA is enough for pharm. Some say it is enough for biochem, micro, histo, embryo, & immuno.

I would like to hear more feedback about this...my test is in 11 days & I have used only FA for pharm, histo, embryo, micro & immuno. I have enough time in my schedule to go through a short review book or two, such as HY. Any recommendations?

Dear Ms. Dreds,

We at the NBME have made an executive decision that all test questions will come strictly from material not covered in 1st aid. We will devise questions that will test obscure details about pathways that are not considered to be imprtant enough to be covered in most medical texts and we will stress the fundamentals of disease that you will see if you practice on Mars. We hope this information will help you to better focus your studying efforts.

Sincerely,
Ima Flunkyoass

Dear Ms. Flunkyoass,

I can tell you are a biochemist by profession and have never touched a patient before. Thank you for writing our USMLE. It will be useful in the days when mankind reaches mars.

Sincerely,
Glucouronydase Gangsta.

On a more serious note, First Aid covers pharm and micro fairly well. The behaviorial science is enough too. I'm not too sure about CV or Pulmonary but I know that Goljan's high yield biochem will getcha the biochem you need. I'm not sure that First Aid's biochem is enough. First Aid has a nice section of basic Histo and embryo. I think they are enough.
