I was thinking about picking up Microcards by harpavat. It seems the newer version is about 3 times the price. Does anyone know of why, or should I just stick with the old ones.

I was also thinking about getting the Brenner Pharm Cards. Any feedback on either set would be helpful.

PS I'm looking for step studying not class

whats up loser. I have the old microcards which are awesome. I also have the brenner pharm cards but if your going to get pharm cards, Id go with pharmnemonics. Brenner's are great, but pharmnemonics has some great mnemonics which make life easier. Check them out. Hope this helps. peace

i asked about these earlier - but didn't get much feedback on them - was still considering the brenner's - did they cover all the pharm we need? i was going to order the microcards too but haven't yet.

Alluponyomomma,

Thanks for your reply, I hadn't heard of these pharmneumonics cards. I do like spicing up my rote memorization a bit tho so I might just give them a try. Anyone else on Brenner vs parmneumonics?

The MicroCards and PharmCards (I'm almost positive these are put together by the same publisher) are VERY extensive. The authors are Harvard-affiliated Residents/Attendings who don't play around. This isn't Brenner's where MOA is haphazardly given and drugs are missing left and right. They give you EVERYTHING in explicit detail. If you want to KNOW your bugs and drugs, these are the cards to get.

I bought the Brenner cards during the school year, and I think it has the perfect amount of information on them. Not too detailed like the pharmcards that are put out, and with enough space in between so you can easily jot down notes. I also have the BRS flashcards for pharm, which are super sparse (like 1 sentence max per drug), which might be nice for quick review closer towards exam time, but not too helpful to study with.

I haven't yet gone through the FA to see how many of the drugs are in flashcard form, but I can say from the drugs we learned in class that the set isn't all-inclusive. However, there is a nice section at the bottom that lists all similar drugs.

Hope this helps.

Take a look at my entry for the 2008 Step I experiences (last entry). I linked to the flash cards I used, which were good prep for Step I.
