I will likely start a VA postdoc next year, and possibly a VA job after that. In the last 2 years I have come to deeply appreciate psychodynamic training after almost a decade of manualized EPBs. There are some post-licensure psychodynamic/analytic training programs. The one I'm looking at in particular is every friday from 130pm-530pm. Would a VA staff psychologist job let me flex hours to get off every Friday afternoon, i.e. four 10s, work in the inpatient clinic on Saturdays, something? Would it hurt me professionally to admit to doing this in a VA that is hard nosed about manualized treatment? Thanks

I would echo what AbnormalPsych said--yes, it's possible, but it can be highly VA-dependent. When you're interviewing for jobs will be the best time to negotiate for an alternative schedule, of which four 10s is one. Once you're hired, the ability to switch schedules can become more difficult.
