Okay so can't find any such thread do I created it. I have a 32q mcat 3.0 cgpa and 2.9 bcpm. I'm also a canadian applicant. Currently I have offers from both the Georgetown SMP and Flinders medicall school. I'm leaning towards Georgetown as I've always wanted to go there, but I'm trying to get all different perspectives to make an informed decision on where to accept the offer from so I was hoping you guys could help out.

How on earth could you pass up on going to a school called Flinders?

Simple. Would you rather go to med school in the US or Australia?

If Australia, go to Flinders. Be prepared for the IMG issues though.

If the US, go to Georgetown.

Even if you don't get into a US school, you probably still could get into an Australian school next year.

If I were younger I'd be going after Flinders instead of staying in the US. I was all over Australia & Ireland med school admissions last year, right before I got my EVMS acceptance. Sigh.

For a low-GPA Canadian, it's really hard to know how to call this. I have a suspicion that Georgetown won't do for Canadians what it can do for Californians. Can you see if Gtown can put you in touch with some Canadian grads?

Best of luck to you.

Flinders is unheard of to most people that's true, I hadn't heard of it till my buddy told me about it. But after looking into it, it has a solid reputation with a lot of Residency directors, and up until last week used to have a fixed tuition rate. It's also the first Graduate entry program in Aus, the bigger names all follow its curriculum. Living in adelaide is also cheaper than DC or rest of aus, plus the minimum wage there is pretty high. I spoke to a Canadian who is working in AUS, and did med there, and he raves about the work hours and pay. According to him even though you cant do residency straight out of med school as a foreign national in Australia (they go to training schools for specialties rather than the normal residency route), you can do an internship which pays better than US residencies, which helps a lot with the loan repayment (He paid his back in 3 years). Another plus Flinders has compared to the rest of Aus is that it doesn't have placement problems for internships as do the rest of the aus provinces.

Drmidlife I'm 25 would you consider aus at this age?
I did ask them to get me in touch with some Canadian grads and I actually got in touch with someone from who went to the same undergrad school as I did. She's in MS2 and didn't seem to have any negatives to say about it.

I'm trying to weigh the benefits against the debt that I will be in for each option...its still a pretty tough call..
