I know that the grind to becoming a dentist is a hard and long one, that comes with much stress, and sometimes it's good to take a little time to let your body relax and "heal" from the mental pressure of it all. I don't know about you guys, but after a while of school school school, i get kind of "burnt" out. And sometimes i have trouble staying fully motivated.
There is something that i recommend, that all people should try at least once in there life( if not regularly ). Unfortunately, not a lot of people know about Floatation. So let me do my best at explaining it...
First, i'll tell you WHAT it is:
A Floatation tank is about 8 feet long i'd say, and about 4-5 feet wide. Inside the tank, there is about 10 inches of Water, and 800+ pounds of Epsom Salt. The water is heated to 93.5 degrees which is the neutral temperature of the surface of your skin, and because of the amount of Salt in the water, you literally float effortlessly at the top of the water ( I've had people ask me: well why don't you just float in a pool? That's an annoying question, number one because in a pool, your floating IN the water, in the tank, your floating ON the water basically, and completely effortlessly. number two, well, I'm about to tell you the details of why the tank is so special ). So anyways, you step in the tank, and shut the the opening behind you. (It's not completely pitch black yet because they leave a dull light on for you, and its your choice if you want to turn it off or not. My advice: most definitely turn it off, that's what makes the whole experience). So once you shut the opening( its completely soundproof, PLUS, they give you earplugs, and your ears are submerged underwater, they are supposed to be ), you lay on your back, and shut off the light. You literally cannot see a thing, as it's sound-proof, and light-proof. Even if you put your hand right in front of your face( you get the idea ).
So, its completely pitch black, and your floating effortlessly on your back, on the water(with your ears submerged underwater), and because the water is the exact same temp as your skin, give your brain the illusion that you are suspended in air, "slowing the brain waves down to theta level, a dreamy state in which the brain releases endorphins". It's an awesome and very relaxing feeling, and it's to get away from reality for a while. Everybody has different experiences with it, but it's sort of like meditating. Its scientifically proven to reduce stress, increase motivation, a bunch of other things that i will list below. On top of just the relaxation, and pain/ache/stress relieving, there is a further state that you can bring your experience to. Sort of like an out-of-body experience.
If you float a few times, you get better and better at achieving that peace-ness( it doesn't come the first time you go ), but when you get to that point, you can have out of body experiences, crazy stuff, no joke.
The whole thing is, you have to "let go" of everything. Let go of yourself, let go of your thoughts, let go of the thought of letting go, let go again. And once you get to that "point", it can be scary. Because your completely letting go of who you are as a person, your kind of just entering this state of energy, kind of like your in unison with everything else in the universe. Very hard to explain, but i have a video i'm going to link below, for people who are interested.
So anyways, there are a bunch of benefits to the Floatation tank, and ill list some below:
Ha, this may seem like im trying to sell you this product or something, but im actually just letting people know about something that has really helped me, and that will most likely help you, if it sounds like something for you.
Float rates are usually around 70$ an hour. You shower at the Float place, before, and after. And some places give you herbal tea after, some places come with a massage after, sauna, etc.
One thing before i end my rant:
I give credit to the discovery of the Floatation Tank, to my friend( or i wish he was my friend 🙁), Joe Rogan( UFC commentator, standup comedian, or as a lot of you might know him, Ex- Fear Factor Host ). He is actually how i learned about the tank, and all it's benefits. He has one in his own house because he uses it/likes it so much! He uses it every day, and he says 95% of all his ideas and thoughts come from when hes in the tank, which i believe, and which makes complete sense.
He has a video im going to link below, where he tells about his experience, where he completely " lets go " , and its a great video. Ofcourse since he has one in his own house, he gets to acheive that experience everytime he's in the tank.
I also recommend you watch some other video, i think he has some other videos where he talks about the tank, that really inspired me to try it.
Anyways!
You might ask, HOW THE F DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH A PRE-DENTAL FORUM? Well im sorry 😕, i really am, but im honestly just trying to help my fellow pre-dents out along there journey, its something that helps a lot of people( who know about it ), so it can help you too! 😀
I encourage everyone to at least try it once in there life, its a neat experience. Thanks for listening and i apologize again for being off-topic to this forum.

- Pressures from work are eliminated, leaving you with a clearer mind and the ability to concentrate more effectively. This increases creativity, the ability to solve problems, personal motivation, and energy levels.
- Every muscle is allowed to rest and recover(including your brain)
- Floating can duplicate the mental focus achieved through self-hypnosis and help with visualization
- Healing, even from chronic pain, proceeds at an accelerated rate.
- Floating helps you bring worries or blocks to the forefront where you can focus on and confront them.
- Floating causes the body to release endorphins (the body's own painkiller), including beta-endorphins. The body releases endorphins in times of comfort as well as pain. They are far more powerful than drugs, such as morphine, and are associated with relief from migraine, back pain, and arthritis.
- Regulate your blood pressure through regular floating. Your heart rate will slow down during a float and the effects of this may last for several days.
- Increase theta wave production in your brain to aid visualization, creative insights, and association.
- Release intuitive understanding and start to see the 'big picture.' By removing the stimuli (light and sound) from the analytical side of the brain, floating enhances the operation of the right side of the brain.
- Solve the problems that normally seem too complicated to tackle. With no new information entering the mind, floating allows a deeper and different quality of thinking.
- One hour of floating is equivalent to four hours of good restful sleep.
- You will feel relaxed and revitalized
- Aids digestion, removes toxins, and balances brain hemispheres.
- R.E.S.T- Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique, which is deep states of relaxation.
