👎 Prospective Florida periodontics residents watch out. The dean at Florida is not friendly to perio. The future of the program is uncertain. We need to keep each other posted on grad programs.

from my experience all of the faculty in that department are hurting. The residents are cool as heck though. maybe they are not mean... they may just not like me... 😳

Hi. What do you mean the future of the program is uncertain? What info is this based on? Seems weird that a dean would want to cancel any program at his/her own school. I'm just curious. I'm in the process of applying to Perio right now and UF is one of programs I'm interested in. Any additional info about UF or really any other Perio program would be appreciated. Thanks.

san antonio -
our grad perio is thriving, tons of awesome professors and residents - cutting edge procedures and research - one of the best they say
and the grad perio clinic is pretty nice

Tamara,

Perhaps you could elaborate a little bit instead of offering a drive-by attack?

(edited for clarity)

not sure what you mean by drive by attack, i said nothing bad about anyone

but here is more about the perio program at san antonio

-i know its pretty competetive for perio residencies due to the reputation of the faculty and research (there are some leaders in the field of implants here at our perio program; mellonig, kaiser, meffert, oates to name a few)
-the clinic is well equipped, all new Adec operatories
-extensive opportunity for implant placement surgeries done by perio and OMS (all implant placement surgeries are divided evenly among the two residency programs) there are tons and tons of research studies going on here w/implants so a lot of people get them because they dont have to pay very much - so the perio residents get a lot of experience from what I hear.
-full time assistants are assigned to the residents

No, not you Texas. You didn't make any kind of attack at all, you're just proud of your own program! I was referring to the orginal poster, Tamara.

i have changed my views of the perio dept... i like them all now. amazing how someone seems mean one day and cool the next. later.
