Would you rather practice in Florida or Chicago? Also, do PT need referrals in both places to see patients?

I am gng to Northwestern to get my pre-req but eventually would like to settle in FL.

Any thoughts?😉

wait, you're at NU now or are going there for PT? I went there for undergrad and am most likely going there for PT as well.

I've lived in Chicago my whole life and love - I can't imagine living anywhere else, but that may change. I've never been to Florida and don't know anything about their PT practices - it's just personal preference. If you've lived in both places and love both places, apply to jobs in both states and then see where you get hired - that may decide it for you or you may still have to make a choice, but you'll have more to go on.

I will start at Northwestern in their Pre-Physical therapy program. I don't know where I'll go for DPT yet.

they don't have a pre-physical therapy program in undergrad....they don't even have anatomy and physiology in their undergraduate school - you have to go to the School of Continuing Studies in Chicago for that. It's a pain if you're doing undergraduate work in Evanston at the same time (that's what I did).

Oh wait...are you doing the SCS pre-PT post baccalaureate professional health certificate thing through SCS? In that case, you'll get a good feel for Chicago and the NU campus since all that is downtown (I think). I looked into doing that for pre-requisites since I already got my Bachelor's from NU, but I didn't want to pay that much for classes for an extra year (plus I had done physiology and anatomy from NU's SCS already while an undergrad), so I just went for community college classes.

NU's science classes are really hard, but they're really good. The woman who teaches anatomy (Bio 313) during the academic year is PHENOMENALLY intelligent. Maybe the best class I took in my four years at NU.

Good luck!

yes, i am going to school of continuing education. some places, i heard do not accept credits from Community College, and thats why I decided to go NU route.

ah gotcha. Yeah I emailed all the programs I was looking at to make sure they were okay with CC classes....Enjoy NU! they have some great classes, and the SCS campus is fantastic.
