Florida Programs

Can anyone comment on the strength of the path programs in Florida? I'm particularly interested in any info on UMiami, UFla, Orlando and Tampa.

Miami and UFla in particular seem like they could be very strong programs, yet I never see mention of them in any of the nebulous rankings.

I ask this question because I might be facing the couples match next year, and certain geographical preferences are part of the equation.

it seems that most people on this forum are more interested in northeast, midwest, and west coast schools....
but i have heard that UMiami has a strong program. i'm not sure about the others (although i applied to them too).

do you know if the florida schools favor florida residents for residency programs, the way they do for medical school?

I too am interested in what people have heard.

One of the attending pathologists at my school said that the only Florida path program he would consider was Gainesville, as he felt the training and breadth were very strong there. He did not think much of the programs elsewhere in Florida, including Miami.

I didn't have time to press him for more details, unfortunately.
