I recently purchased Flura-safe for my practice, which is advertised to be a "safe way" to check pressures in a contact lens practice, meaning that just after checking pressures with it, contact lenses can be safely inserted without irrigation, and that the dye will not stain the contacts.

However, I have had several patients complain that their eyes "feel funny" and "uncomfortable" after inserting the contacts following tonometry. Is this product really okay to use for tonometry, and then have patients insert contact lenses immediately after without any irrigation? Just curious how most doctors perform contact lens fittings along with applanation tonometry? (Fitting first? or tonometry first?)

It feels weird because they're still numb. I don't imagine it would be that different if you used normal fluorescein and then irrigated. They'd still be numb.

It's more practical to do tonometry first while the contact lenses are already out. If you do it after the fitting, they have to take the lenses back out again before doing Goldmann. Then they have to put them back in again at the end. You can do the fitting first if you applanate right before dilating then have them leave their contacts out until after the DFE.
