Hi, I am board certified ABFM and have worked almost 5 years exclusively as a adult inpatient hospitalist. I'd like to do critical care eventually and of course, as an FM, I am unable to. Thus I am looking to go back to residency, either IM or EM.

I am not sure the ideal way to go about it thus I am posting here and I will probably ask for advice in the IM/EM threads as well.

Thank you

I would exhaust every other option before subjecting yourself to this.
But if you insist on doing a 3 year residency and 1 to 2 year fellowship, I would suggest the EM route.

Since the most credit you'd get for IM is 6 months, I bet they'd make you repeat all 3 years. I would suggest you go the EM route IF it is before the switch to 4 year residencies

Honestly, is it really worth it to you to do a minimum of 5 more years of training?
