I am trying really hard to get a Family Medicine Interest Group going at my school, but I haven't been able to get anywhere because no one will get back to me. I feel like if I had some more concrete ideas for activities for the group to do I might have better success. I am at the Alaska WWAMI Regional Site so we are a small group and our local resources are a bit limited - we don't have a free clinic for example. We are also all first year students, which also puts more limits on what we can do.

I was hoping to get some ideas from people here. 🙂

I have browsed through the AAFP page for ideas too. So far I have:

Suture Clinic (this is covered in ICM though)
Heart Sounds Clinic
BP Clinic (how to take Manual BP) – followed by free public BP checks??

EKG lead placement / reading
Blood glucose / DM management
Joint injections - finding landmarks would be good
Casting clinic (although you need some financial support to do this)

If you have no upperclassmen, you're kinda boned unless you find faculty that are willing to donate their time. M1s teaching M1s is turrible.

The physician sponsor or other visiting physicians would be teaching us. In theory.

Those are great ideas and definitely gives me a better starting point. Thank you very much!
