In order to do well in my classes and have enough free time to prevent burn out, I estimate that I can dedicate 1-2 hours per day to USMLE world until I take step 1 next June.

If I commit to knowing USMLE world forwards and backwards before my dedicated study time, would I be able to score at least average on step 1?

I don't get much from passively reading. I prefer to actively memorize and answer questions. Some people like firecracker. Some people don't. No one seems to complain about USMLE world.

I kind of think it's a bad idea. UWorld is (in my opinion at least) the best resource you have for step 1. It's a waste to use it up too early.

I agree with @twolittlebears. In my personal experience it is best to learn from uworld once you have a grasp of the info. If you really want to start this early I would suggest trying out FC (especially if you like repetition and not reading FA). Learn the info really well from M1 (biochem pathways, micro, pharm) and sift through the cesspool coursework for the board relevant info 2nd year. Buy an extra qbank (Kaplan and/or Rx, either one works) around Christmas during M2 and go through it before you start uworld. If FC works for you, it can be a great resource, if not there are other ways to solidify basic sciences. Uworld has helped me a lot more now that I'm 5 weeks out and have a solid foundation.

I just think it is overkill to spend 365-700 hours on UW alone. If you are really going to spend 1-2 hours/day on questions you have enough time to do kaplan, Rx, and Uworld. Do that instead.
