For 2012 match, can I use reference letters of work I did in 2010?

So I'm planning on applying next summer for 2012 match.

If I've done some elective/clinical work this year, 2010, can I use those LORs or will it be too old? Since it will have been over 1 year...

As in, would PDs only consider applicants with letters from physicians that was done in 2011 for 2012 match, not 2010........thanks,

P.S. - I am an IMG applicant, if that makes any difference. And I did the elective/clinical work this year in the U.S, thats why I'm inquiring.

Yes, you can. What some candidates do is contact letter writers to see if they will update letters -- basically redate them. I don't personally find this all too helpful, as a letter dated 2010 that is describving cliunical work done in 2008 is still about clinical work in 2008.

Newer letters are better, but many programs will not care about letters from 2010 when you apply in 2011 (for the 2012 match)

Hey, thanks for that reply.

Although now I'm bit a concerned since you say "newer letters are better", making me rethink my plans for next year, heh.

As IMG, need whatever I can get to put odds of matching in my favour.

Thx though,
