Hi guys,
Since next year I'll be in my orgo/bio year, I am somewhat considering linking to UDMNJ (it's my state school so I figure tuition will be cheaper and I'll save a year).
Do you guys know what are the criteria for the committe to nominate us for NJ med schools (GPA cutoffs, etc.)? Also, do you think linking is worth it?
Currently my dream med school is NYU, so is it worth it to wait a year, risk it and apply to NYU and other med schools?
Thanks

Hey md,

You can try asking the advisors - but they're sneaky about the information they give out re: linkage. I do know that there's usually a minimum GPA cut-off (~ 3.4-3.6 and above). The advisors will only nominate people who, in their view, have a really good shot of linking. A lot of times half of those who apply are actually nominated. But again, I would ask the advisors. Try Ellen - she's the most open and honest, in my opinion!

Hope things are going well on your end! Goooooooooooodddd luck!

Thank you ajt,
😛 Congrats on UPENN!!!!!!!! Successes like yours make all of us postbacs go 👍
Next year is approaching very fast and I don't know what I want- the story of my life. But the good news, I'll be doing project healthcare this summer!!! I am excited, I've grown very fond of Bellevue.
Ajt, since you got in at NYU, what do you think they look for in an applicant? Any insight. I would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to go there.

Thanks so much!

And congrats on Project Health Care! It's a wonderful program - you'll learn a lot. Actually, I think the main reason why I got into NYU was because of project health care - the head of the program (Sue Montella) apparently wrote me a really stellar rec (according to my advisor), and I briefly mentioned Bellevue in my AMCAS personal statement - so that may have helped me to get my foot in the door. I do know that NYU's not all about numbers. And that's refreshing! I would just do a bang up job this summer, be your mature, industrious self, and play nicely with the other kids. At the end of the program, be certain to request a recommendation. Oh, and try and befriend Dr. Goldfrank - he's a LEGEND!

Good luck getting through finals!
