These questions are for current students and recent graduates of CSUN. How do you like or how did you like the program? What don't or didn't you like about it? How is/was the quality of education? How is the vibe like at the program with the students and faculty?

I heard that the CSUN PT program is on the decline. Is this true? A PT from USC told me that many of the good CSUN PT teachers left because it was difficult to get it to become a DPT school and they were frustrated.

Also, have the budget cuts in California negatively affected the program? That is, have any PT classes been cut? Is the PT program affected by any furlough days? And lastly, has the change from an MPT to a DPT program negatively affected the program in any way?

I appreciate any answers. I visited the campus and attended an info session earlier in March, but I did not get an opportunity to talk to current students in the program.

I'm a first year so I can't give perspective regarding the whole program, but I have been very satisfied at CSUN so far. The professors I've had so far have been very engaging, knowledgeable, easily approachable, and concerned with the progress of the students. The program has been pretty fast-paced and intense (as I'm sure all PT schools are!) but it's much more manageable since everyone helps each other out...I would certainly call the vibe as more cooperation than competition.

CSUN's first DPT class is coming in later this year, so there are a lot of changes going on for that I'm not aware of. The one thing I do know is that the tuition for the program is increasing from ~30k for the MPT to ~80k for the DPT! Surely most of that is out of necessity from the huge budget cuts here that you brought up, but it's still an outrageous increase. On that note, the budget cuts haven't affected time in class, but some of the lab equipment is outdated/not working and likely not being upgraded anytime soon.

I wish I could give you more info about the differences from the switch to the DPT, but I won't know until I hear about them from the future DPT students. Feel free to ask if you have more questions!

Thanks for your response Lorty! I've gotten accepted to CSUN's DPT program as well as USC's, so I've been trying to make a decision based on everything from cost, quality of the program, students' satisfaction with their respective programs, etc. It's really sad that CSUN's cost is going from 30k to 80k, and I wish I was in an MPT program, but it's really too late for that haha. Still though, I would save a lot of money going to CSUN instead of USC.
