Are they looking for broad volunteer experience or can you have two or three activities which are related to a singular cause?

For example, if you want to work with cancer patients, can you volunteer your time for two or three organizations related to helping cancer patients or should you being volunteering with the cancer patients and OTHER organizations?

They are "looking for" things that you're passionate about and highlight qualities that they feel are necessary for physicians. IMO the actual activities themselves are very unimportant.

Some people might say that there's an advantage to having a breadth of experiences, but I doubt it would matter that much. Really it all comes down to how you present the activities.

I did exactly that. Because I was involved with a number of support groups, I put "Support Groups" as an activity, and used the space to describe the number I was involved in and what my roles were in each. I did the same for "Undergradauate employment", as I had quite a few jobs. This allowed me more space to focus on the really important ECs
