I'm in personal statement hell! I had no idea how difficult it would be to pick and choose the things that best exemplify me as qualified to be a physician...even harder, picking out the top three (just thought three was a good number, no other reason there) so that I could finesse my way into the adcoms hearts and write something mildly significant about each attribute rather than writing "you should admit me because I have a ton of clinical experience, I'm a compassionate person, not a total blockhead, and I really like learning!"

unless you guys think I'd be better off just going with that last sentence...after all, I take everything I read on SDN for gospel...could you pick my schools for me too please? 👍

Christ...I need to take a break...but here's one legitimate question and I'll conclude this rant - what do you all think about a PS without a distinct conclusion? Like I mentioned, I'm writing on three themes all related to why I'll be a great MD. If I make a point to wrap up each of the themes well within the essay, and have a strong concluding sentence to my final theme, think I can get away with no summarizing/concluding paragraph?

thanks, SDN is a great resource, sorry to be so cynical,
Liz

Oh.....I don't know about that.....each of your themes should represent a different aspect of your interest in medicine. As such they should all be concluded in the end with a definite point. Otherwise it will look like 3 separate PS's smashed together.....right?

perhaps...It's still a total first draft, not even really assembled yet, but I don't think it's difficult to infer from each of them that they're all interrelated and all get at the point; "hey adcom, you should give me a chance!"

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit thinking they might see it as refreshing that I respected their ability to get that on their own, rather than have it spelled out...but maybe a conclusion's necessary no matter what...I don't know...hence my starting this thread 🙂

Best help I can give you.

Truth is I have yet to start my ps

Don't worry, I think it's very common to freak out at some point while writing your PS 🙂. Just finish a draft, show a lot of people and get their feedback on how you can change it to make it better. I don't think it's necessary to have a traditional summary conclusion paragraph, but just make a sentence or two reiterating your main point: you want to become a doctor.

Otherwise, there are several people on these forums who have offered to read and critique PS's. If you're looking for feedback, that might be a good place to start.

Also here's another thread discussing PS issues, it may help as well:
