Hi all,

For those applied to med schools as grad student in progress,
I was wondering if thesis defense (and thus ms/phd degree) is absolutely required before matriculating to med schools? 😕
I've heard stories of grad students coming back to their grad school to defend their thesis after they have already matriculated into a med school.

Don't you usually have to do a thesis defense before you graduate? And don't med schools usually require you to complete the program you're in prior to matriculation?

I'm in a masters program, but fortunate enough to only have to write a thesis, and not defend it, but I'm pretty sure the thesis defense would be required prior to graduation.

I find most schools require you to have successively defended your degree before the start of classes. Multiple schools even require your supervisor or department head to sign a form or write a LOR which indicates that you are expected to defend before the start of classes

I was wondering this exact same thing. I'm worried I may not be able to defend my thesis before I need to move for orientation and all that. I would only need like another month, but I'm hoping I can just come back the next summer and defend.

Yes I can confirm this to be true. However, the student I know that got into medical school had also done his graduate degree at the same university. I don't know if he finished his defense though.

I don't recommend this OP. You will have a hard time IMO.
