Hopefully these questions are not already on this forum...I have a couple of questions from destroyer. I tried contacting Nancy, but have not got a response....Number 9 in OChem has me stumped....The question is as follows:

#9 Ochem If this molecule is heated, which COOH group will decarboxylate most easily?

I understand the answer is the beta keto acid, however, the picture shows choice c as the answer and I don't think this is beta to the keto group. Can someone explain? I thought the carbon next to the keto would be alpha and the next one would be beta. So choice B would have been my answer. I don't have a way of posting the molecule, so maybe someone with the 2008 version can help me out?

BIO Question. 158
I am having trouble with this question regarding how many chromatids an egg cell will contain. I understand that there are 23 chromosomes, but why only 23 chromatids?

From what I can find, chromosomes have 2 chromatids (I thought the answer should be 23 chroms and 46 chromatids). This is correct in question number 187. Can you clarify for me?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

bio 158 was asked about less than a week ago, i don't know if it was u who asked it or not but it was answered, and i saw it 2 days ago so it should be either on this page or page2~3. I don't remember the topic though but it was the exact same question.

C=O is keto group. The C of this keto group is called Sh#t.
the C next to this is alpha and the next is beta, thus choice C is beta C.
choice B carbon would be gamma (i think~ not that it's important)

Sex cells are somatic. 1n.

Thanks all of you....I see it clearly now. I think I have brain overload. I have been studying nonstop and take the test this Friday!
