Are you all annotating each of these lecture notes series with the video lectures? I haven't gone through all the subjects to know if there was so much to add that was not in these notes. 😕

I could save so much more time if I speed these up and then read the notes w/o taking notes. Then reading the notes after and doing questions relating to that area.

I'm watching these at regular speed right now, but I don't think I'll finish all of this within the 2nd week of july. I started with Physio, then Anatomy and am in the middle of Neuro now. I think I'm taking almost triple the time because of all of this rewinding, probably unnecessary rewinding. If I bump up the speed to 1.5 for example, then it's tough to write anything down.

Sometimes, I end up falling in the trap of writing "everything down - word for word" and then getting more confused b/c I was paying more attention on writing down things than what was going on in the video 😡 ugh!

Going through these lecture notes are fairly time consuming, but I just wanted to get a first pass overview with Kaplan and then stick to questions. My exam was scheduled for the end of August.
Well if you have any thoughts or feedback on what has helped you, that would be nice to hear! 🙂

In all honesty, the videos for pharm, phys, behavioral science, immuno, biochem and anatomy are QUALITY. the rest are okay, and in my opinion not worth wasting time with. if you dont understand something in it, pick up a reference book and annotate accordingly. it'll save you more time in my opinion.

On the other hand, the vids total to about 170 hrs, so if you could put on your work boots and get to work. So if you get through these 170 hours one time, you'll be in a good shape.

In regards to neuro, I think you could just read the neuro section as its pretty detailed and don't need the vids, just try and get a souce for pictures for scans and such.

I'm going through pharm right now, and the guy is really really good AND the book IMO is barebones. So watching the vids helps me pay attention as i listen really attentively and annotate AFTER he is finished with a concept. That way i listen to what hes has to say and am able to write notes in my own words, it stays with me better. Also pre-reading the notes helps minimize the amount i write as i kind of already know whats in the notes and whats not.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for your feedback! I don't know, hearing/seeing it, just gives me more comfort that I am going through it somehow. I definitely want to finish going through all of the videos along with the respective text.

Maybe I will do a little pre-reading and then I won't run into worrying about what to write or not. My main thing was just to get over these videos and books as fast as I could to tackle questions for the remaining month and a half.

The videos and text are exhausting as they seem to take up almost 3/4 of my study time, which is practically the whole day. Maybe I will hold off on the note taking with these videos so that I can save that energy in taking notes from questions onto First Aid.

Do you wish you had used these videos during your first and second year lectures? Do you think that would've helped?? I start my first year this August and I just got the videos, and I plan on using them along with my lectures. Do you think this will be worthwhile??

I think it really depends on your school. My school was super weak on immunology to the point that listening to the 7-8 hours of immuno lectures improved my understanding 100% (yeah thats right, I knew nothing about immuno before basically). I'm guessing that the micro stuff in the Kaplan videos is better than what was taught at my school too, but for the purposes of this exam I felt that there were better resources for micro out there than Kaplan. I'm assuming that most schools probably require students to have more in-depth knowledge of each of the subjects than what is presented in the DVDs, so watching them may clear up the Big Picture for you if that is lacking, but may not sufficient do really help you do well on your exams at school. On the other hand if you have time to watch them during MS1/2 along with classes I'm sure it won't hurt anything, and then you'll at least be seeing what is important/high-yield for Step 1 in advance. Chances are you'll want to use your free time for something other than that though haha. I've heard several people on here say that their school makes them take shelf exams for the basic science subjects, in which case these videos would probably be great review too

I also had the Qbook but forgot about incorporating it into the videos and notes - I see that it's subject based and ~900questions. Can anyone comment on how useful/representative it is?

In terms of kaplan questions, I was just sticking to the questions based at the end of each chapter/section in that respective lecture book.

been using them since MS1, MS2 now and am still using them, they are extremely helpful to clear concepts, i watch about an hour a day so it doesnt pile up because some of them can be lengthy. Also i watch them at 1.5x using quicktime if you dont like quicktime you can use GOM player as well.

hi,
i got the kaplan lecture notes for all the materials in usmle1 and im sticking with them and planning to do lots of questions after finishing them.
i got photocopies of the lecture notes from overseas and they r in a good quality and unbelievable price.
the thing is that i just noticed that the immunology/microbiology book starts with page no. 373 yet it is the beginning of the first chapter of immuno and then the micro begins at page 487 again it is the beginning of chapter 1 in micro... which made me confused of what is in the first 300 pages of this book???!!!!

anyone have any idea??!!! 😕

LECTURE NOTES have IMMUNO and MICRO in SAME BOOK. It starts with page #1 and ends somewhere after 553.
