For Those of You Who Have Experience With PTCAS...

I have over 700 hours as a PT aide at an outpatient clinic, and 50 hours at a geriatric facility. I am about to start about 16-20 hours at an inpatient facility (today actually).

For those of you who have experience with PTCAS already, when you enter all of this information, if the school doesn't require that the information be verified, do you give them any information about the facility or PT you shadowed--like the name, number, license number, etc? Or do you just type in that you did some hours and call it a day?

The directions from the PTCAS manual are a little bit ambiguous, and it seems odd that you wouldn't have to give any additional information.

I would go ahead and include the contact information of ALL facilities with which you did observation hours. It does not hurt to be as thorough as possible. Also, if you plan on using this clinical observation for an LOR opportunity, PTCAS will need the therapist's information anyway. If you already have your LORs set then you may not need to verify their license#, but to show how many cumulative hours you have at various facilities would automatically require you to enter the "general contact information."

None of my programs required the hours to be verified, but I asked all the places I shadowed at to verify them anyway, just in case. 🙂

I am a PT Aide as well as of January this year... Would it be wrong to put my hours under observation hours AND work experience, or would you simply put one or the other?

I'm not positive if that information is required, but if you have the information, I would go ahead and put it in. You could always contact PTCAS as well.

Corks - if you are getting paid, put it in as work experience. Observation hours are more so if you are job shadowing or volunteering.
