I have a choice of one to take next quarter, should i take micro or bot? which is more interesting.. I loved core bio but hate zoology by the way

Botany is the study of plants. Are you debating taking MIC 102 or BIS 1C?

But you mentioned zoology, so that's BIS 1B.

Microbiology was much more interesting than BIS 1B or 1C. I actually thought both classes weren't very great. 1B wasn't that bad. Try to take Keen. She's great. The lab was intersting though, so that's a positive. 1C lab is very tough, especially the practicals. The class is not too difficult, but material is not terribly interesting.

I would suggest taking MIC102. I mention on the other thread about which professors to take. Dr. Mann is tough, but you will learn a lot. Dunno if he's teaching it, but i think he usually teahces all the lab sections, so you'll see him there. Good luck choosing and with finals. Starts Monday right?

I LOVED micro. It was a great class and very interesting! Plus, the lab was super easy. I def. recommend it. :luck:

Ive already taken 1b and hate it actually. actually, my final is on mon and im screwed. i think i aced the lab practical though. i wish i had keen, but i have a new professor named spitzer, its his first time teaching this course.

Im supposed to be studying for 1b final rite now, i was at sheilds awhile ago but fell asleep after 30 min. zoo is so boring to me. instead, im on sdn and listening to ccyndi lauper...

Definitely take MIC102. If you can get Dr. Mann, he has a very clinical approach to his teaching. He relates everything to human health, and he ends the quarter with three weeks of talking about microbial diseases. But again, he's very tough on his exams. Don't want to give you the wrong advice. you will learn a lot though.

Artz is suppose to be the easier one. I never took him soi don't have any of his old exams, but from what i heard, having them will make the class much easier since he recycles. Ask around. good luck.

thanks, i will

i was a microbiology major and TA'd it for 3 yrs. i love microbio so much
i think prokaryotes are the greatest thing the world has ever known. i strongly suggest you take it. although botany is cool too, microbes are so interesting and diverse! theyre the reason we have the oxygenated environment today, therye the reason we are alive! they survive extreme temperatures! they turn milk into yogurt and cheese! or mkae pickles n sauerkraut! (lactobacillus acidophilus) they can be pesticides !(bacillus thurogenesis) they are important for molecular bio/genetics work. they cause a number of beautiful diseases !although mostly they are good and cute. www.giantmicrobes.com

definately micro

if you are going to be a doctor, at least take the class that might help you in the future

I had Artz, but didn't get my exams back. Go to classical notes and the reserves in Shields to get old exams. Bio 1C was WAAAY too much work for what you end up using in the end (not much, admittedly). MIC102 will give you much needed info for the MCAT--try to take 1C in the summer so its faster and you can get it over with!
