I looked through the archives of PDA-related threads, and I didn't find anything about this in particular.

I'm looking at a Palm TX. Have any of you had trouble running things like epocrates or Wills? I keep reading that the Palm OS is really unstable with 3rd party software and installing anything 3rd party makes it crash all the time. Has anyone here experienced this? Would I be better off picking something up that runs Windows Mobile? I'm kind of limited b/c I want the wi-fi, but I don't want to spend more than $300.

Thanks!

I recently just purchased a Palm TX for my boyfriend and after a few days of playing around with it, we ended up returning it. We didn't like the operating system, it was kinda hard to navigate.. and although it has wifi and enables you to surf the net, its not he same as surfing the net on a computer.. the screen is too small to see everything...

im going to look for a new PDA and will want one with Windows Mobile. hope that helps!

I upgraded from a Palm Zire72 to a Palm TX and I love it so far! I can't answer the question about any 3rd party software like Epocrates.. though I do have Trivial Pursuit. 😀

I've had a Palm TX for about a month now, purchased a refurbished one from tigerdirect for ~$200.

THe operating system is a little goofy, but I've become accustomed to it quite easily. I haven't really had any problems with it, though I think it froze up on me once. Epocrates works fine, no problems there, but I haven't tried Wills yet.

I'm a big fan of Palm OS over Windows Mobil...I also am a Apple fan too. I have the Zire 72 and have very little problem with it. I use it very heavily with epocrates, Wills, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, 2 different CL calculators, a general medical clinical text, and of course contacts, and calendar.

Almost all my software is 3rd party. I like Palm OS b/c is seems that most medical software comes out as Palm based and then a while later Windows Mobil. That is changing and now many are coming out at the same time. At the end of the month, I am getting the Palm Treo 700p. I can't wait! Then I will be able to post on SDN while driving down the highway...well maybe if I'm the passenger.

i've got a tx and epocrates runs fine. my friends have treos (palm os) and they run stuff like mass eye and it runs fine.

Do you exclusively use the PDA version of wills and Mass, are they both easy enough to navigate on a handheld to be helpful?

I would say I use Mass about 80% of the time. Both take a little while to learn though.

where do i find these useful software for pda or palm os?

is a PDA useful for optometry school? I am thikning about getting one for starting school.

What do you mainly use it for - other than keeping track of assignments, exams, etc?

mainly for the epocrates when looking up drug info either for writing scripts or checking on patient meds.

i have friends that like using mass e&e and wills, but i just use the book form of those. the pictures are postage stamp size on a treo.

oh also for playing bejeweled.

Anyone else have a favourite? Which one do you like best, Wills OR Mass E&E for Palm?

I'm curious about this too. Though I ended up getting a Dell Axim x51v (thought it was out of my price range, but I scored a good deal on ebay, woo!)

I have both books, and I like them both for different purposes. But I don't know which to spring for for the pda. I like that Mass Eye has pictures, but sometimes I prefer the information/layout in Wills.

Does anyone have or know someone who has a palm phone? I am thinking about getting a PDA for clinic, but am also needing a new phone. So, I was thinking about just making 1 purchase instead of 2. Anyone have any advice?

I just got the treo 700p a few weeks ago. I have the internet axcess and I really like it. I use it in clinic and socially for email/schedual...whatever. The disadvantage is if you don't really need your palm with you, you still have to carry that huge palm. It is not that bid of a deal, but it is something to think about. My wife got the razor and the size is a real advantage. You could slip it into your back pocket and no one can tell. If the treo is back there, you know it.

If I had to do it again, I think I would still get it. It is pretty sweet!
