What did you do your year off? more classes (part time/full time)? Research? Work? What?

i too may be looking at a year off. has anybody of going to work for a dental materials company? Please post if you have or have heard of others who have done this...

For me, I realized I needed to bring something new to the table before reapplying. Last summer I had plans to retake the DAT, enroll in graduate school, and land a job somewhat related to my degree.

Turth of the matter, I landed a research job in the city, took the Kaplan course and studied for my DAT when I wasn't at work, retook the DAT, and was accepted into a Master's Program in the city (Chicago). My hard work and dedication was recently rewarded as I was just recently accepted into my number one.

My advice: don't bite off more than you can chew, but be willing to make some changes. Yea it hurts, but if dentistry is something you really want, you should be able to make sacrifices.

I'm the second time re-applicant. I had only one interview at USC and was rejected for my first time application last year. After I submitted the application in May for cycle 2007, I went to travel in East Asia. I came back in July and started a Dental Assistant Program (I thought this would prepare myself for dental school; I learned everything for being a dental assistant, like taking x-ray, making impression...). Also, I started working in a dental clinic in October.

By the way, I did retake my DAT in Sept.

I will be a reapplicant this year. I was rejected for a few reasons I believe, low GPA and late application. I took the GRE and now I am in a master's program conducting research that is related to dentistry. I also am improving the portion of my resume about dental shadowing and experience, as I am working with a dentist both as a dental assistant and research assistant. Bottom line, as a reapplicant you need to bring something to the table that is unique and/or an improvement on what you previously had.

How much have you liked being a dental assisstant? I am sure the requirements vary by state, but what types of training/testing did you have to go thru to get a job as a dental assistant?

In the case that i don't get into school for 2008, I am leaning towards something "unique" but related to dentistry...that seems to be the thing that SNDers like to say.

I have heard that dental materials is a fascinating field I i think that a sales and or research position with a dental materials firm would defintely be "unique" and interesting...not to mention the nest egg you could put together to help off-set future loans...

have anybody out there gone this route or heard about anyone doing this?
