First off, I apologize if I am posting this in an inappropriate area. Right now I am only a student of psychology, but hopefully more down the line.

In my college class (Abnormal Psychology) we have to interview someone who actually works within the abnormal psychology field. Then we have to connect the interview with our text, what we have learned, and type a paper. I was just looking around and wondering whether anyone here who works in the field would be willing to do an e-mail interview.

Asking for a little bit of someone's time when you do not even know them is a little out of left field, so my expectations are low. But if anyone is willing to do this let me know. Thank you for your time.

Your request is fine with me.

I'm not sure how available our practicing members are, so you may want to have a backup plan (maybe contacting your state/county psychological association and asking if someone may be available to answer some questions).

Welcome to SDN, and good luck!

What exactly do you mean by "abnormal psychology field?" Research? Clinical work with severe mental illness? I work at a state psychiatric hospital with some of the most severely abnormally mentally ill people you'll ever come across if you want to ask me some questions.

Sorry I didn't follow up immediately, I had to go somewhere.

Well the teacher was very vague and just said "in the abnormal psychology field." So I assume that means psychiatrists, nurses who deal in psych wards, or anything along the abnormal psychology lines. He was also very vague in most of the questions so I have to come up with those myself.

Thanks PsyD, I might have to take you up on that. What exactly (in summary) is your job and the purpose?

I only ask that because if I did end up getting to send you some questions, that would help guide it a little.

If you want psychiatrists, you will have to go to the psychiatry board. Most people here are psychologists or grad students in psychology. Since it for a psychology class, I'd think talking to clinical psychologists are ok most likely.

I'd be happy to help-- for the last year I have been interning at a psychiatric hospital, doing most of my work in the intensive care unit. My patients in this unit have all been involutarily committed and are normally actively psychotic/sometimes dangerous, and have a whole host of other stuff going on.

I'm a psychologist in a state psychiatric hospital. I do assessment, treatment planning, tons of paperwork, and if there's time left, actual treatment.

 that was pretty good!! Funny, but also a good political statement about the field I suppose,

Thanks for the replies everyone.

And Erg, thanks for that, I didn't know for sure since I wasn't familiar with the forum, I might have to post there as well.

I have to write a paper about the whole interview and all of that, which isn't due until April 30th, but I figured it would be best to try and get the interview part done as soon as I could.
