How do you make time in your schedule to do all of the interviews?

Assume you are not taking vacation time, does your program allow you to take as much time off to do the interviews?

This is much different than residency interviews. In med school, myself and everyone I knew at school took at least a month off during 4th year to have time to do residency interviews. Now during residency (or if you are out of residency), you can't just take a month off to do interviews.

All these interviews are out of town and if it takes a day to get there, and then the interview the next day, that is at least 2, if not 3, days you will need off.

Any difficulties any of you have encountered with scheduling these interviews?

It seems like realistically there are only a certain number of interviews any one person can do even if you get dozens of offers. You can only take so many days off from your rotation or work.😱

My program was great at basically giving us the time off we needed to go on interviews, no questions asked. Hearing what some people have to beg, borrow, and do to go on an interview kinda sucks.

Being on a call month and having to find someone to exchange a call day with is a real pain in the rump>😡

You said you did 10 PCC interviews. That is at least 20 days you took off (assuming your interviews were not in the same city as residency and you didn't use vacation)? That seems like a lot to work out if you did.....but sounds like you must have had a great, understanding program director.

Every day away was a vacation day, so I had no real vacation second year, but at least I was able to schedule and go without too many problems. The chiefs that year were great, they'd just pull someone off of "research" or an easy elective rotation like derm or rads for the day. Our night call was covered by a float people and I had no overnight issues during the two heavy months of interviews, BUT even then I knew people at my program who did have night shifts were able to swing coverage.

I don't know . . . the culture was just helpful like that. We all helped each other out and the program supported us. They wanted to see us succeed and were always proud by match day.
