In keeping with the spirit of Orgo obsession on SDN, I'm going to take the collegiate level fairly soon and was wondering what should I expect w/ college Orgo? (I liked and did well in it in HS but from the horror stories I've read on here, college Orgo seems like a totally different beast!). Much obliged 😎

There's such thing as orgo in high school? Why the hell would you ever do that to yourself?

I took orgo in high school, we had this major type thing at my hs and i was in the chem major,
its pretty much the same thing, if you did well in HS and are familiar with the concepts you should do fine, but remember: practice practice practice! 🙂

Ochem was easier for me than Gchem was...

Ochem difficulty is over-exaggerated by pretty much everyone.

If you want an A you can earn it

Great. now let's hope orgo is like riding a bike - I'm a non-traditional, did HS over 10 yrs ago ;-) :xf: anyway Thanks a lot Political.

what kind of sadistic HS do/did you go to?

Yeah I had orgo in HS too, but it was like 1 chapter  not like college.

It's covered lightly in AP chem.

 it was actually a very liberal artsy high school. i was into theater and went on to majoring in drama in college.

who knows maybe mandatory HS Ochem is a NYC school thing?

Dude, if you read 2-3 chs on orgo in high school you did not take orgo in high school. 🙄

Organic Chemistry is like jumping off a cliff into the ocean. You do it once. For fun.

Really OP? Not including yours, there are at least three threads about organic chemistry on the front page.

I asked how is hs orgo different from college orgo. I suggest you brush up on your comprehension skills, seeing as how people's lives may depend on it one day.
I hope you realize that almost nobody takes organic chemistry in high school. In fact, I've never heard of such a thing. And judging by a few of the responses in this thread, I'm not alone. So before you get petty, I suggest that if you're not going to search, you should at least scan the front page before you make another useless thread that bumps somebody else's thread (of which two copies probably don't already exist) off of the front page.

Well what did you cover in high school orgo?

We have no idea how its going to be different from your HS experience. If you learned the topic in depth in high school then its pretty much gonna be the same in college for Orgo I and then more advanced topics in Orgo II.

Generally everything at the college level is going to be harder than high school, no matter which high school you went to.

Political gave me the answer I needed. Thank you anyway.

🙂 no not B'klyn Tech, good guess (u from NY, Political?) but another B'klyn school - Murrow. no sports teams, lol, so i guess all the $$$ that woulda gone into sports went into orgo!

What's with all these orgo threads? I mean you don't even need to use the search function, the other two are literally on the front page.
