Solid....EXCEPT for the part about buying those books. I will actually go ahead and make an accusation that he gets paid a percentage from amazon.com when you buy those books after clicking on his links. You can read more about this type of money making scheme here: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/join?ld=AZAssocMakeM&ref=az_mm_aa

From someone who has also gotten into every school he applied, do not buy expensive textbooks before the first day of class. It infuriates me that this individual is trying to capitalize on nervous PT hopefuls.

My suggestion is to ask the PT you are shadowing if they have any books to recommend. No PT is going to recommend you buy an expensive text before getting into school but they may recommend you read a book on leadership or public health. THOSE are the books will help you get into PT school.

Interesting, so perhaps the importance in regards to research is mainly understanding what the profession is and its history and the like, and having a large knowledge base on the school and faculty for which you're being interviewed. Does that sound about right?

I also recommend looking into other sources for GRE studying, like Magoosh or the Manhattan GRE books. I looked quite a bit into different books and read reviews on different ones before I chose what I wanted.

Yeah I've looked into that quite a bit myself. I don't have to take the GRE for a while, probably a good year or so, but I've researched it pretty thoroughly and came to the same conclusion. I already have the Manhattan Big Book, Magoosh flash cards on my phone, and occasionally I'll read scholarly articles from NY Time, The Atlantic, etc. But now that the other person mentioned it, I am a bit skeptical about the usefulness in buying so many PT books ahead of time. I can't imagine that interviews last long enough to go into much detail about such things anyway, I would assume.

For those that used magoosh and mahattan GRE how are you liking the study material? Did you feel well prepared for the GRE? Also did any of you take the Kaplan GRE prep class?

My favorite book for learning vocab is this one: http://www.amazon.com/GRE-Vocab-Capacity-Powerful-Mnemonics/dp/1477650555 It's absolutely hilarious, and I have no problem remembering new words.

I LOVE Magoosh, particularly because there are videos for all the math topics, and each practice question has a video to explain the answer. I haven't done too much practice with the reading sections, and the reading videos weren't super helpful, so you might want to just get the math section for Magoosh. You can also set up your own practice sets that are timed, so you can get better at practicing.

The ETS Powerprep software is essential for getting your timing down and getting used to the format of the test, so at least take one of those tests. There aren't any answers though, so I had to ask my friends to explain a few questions to me.

I haven't taken the GRE yet, so I can't tell you how accurate my scores were for Magoosh and the Powerprep stuff.

Magoosh is what I used also and I would say it was extremely effective.

It was for me as well. I just took the second part of the sentence to answer the blanks. It's confusing and but it worked for me. Magoosh says don't read the first blank and try to answer it, go through the entire sentence and break it down by using the second part of the sentence.

I took Kaplan and felt that it helped, but it really is only worth it if you retake the course (for free) and practice as many of the quiz bank questions and 7 practice tests. Though Magoosh was MUCH cheaper, it didn't really seem to help my score much. Also, the Powerprep tests are good, but don't have an experimental section, so that made a huge difference for me after taking a bunch of Kaplan tests with experimental sections. If I could do it over again, I would have taken the Powerprep tests after the fourth Kaplan test, then finished the final Kaplan tests, before taking the real thing.

I just bought the kaplan premier GRE prepbook on amazon for $18 and read through that and took all the practice tests. I found that helped a lot. I thought the actual GRE test was VERY similar if not almost the same as the pre-tests and my score was about the average of my last three kaplan practice tests. Worked for me, YMMV.

I agree with what Dragon says. It helps a lot to fully understand the sentence first, instead of immediately looking at the answer choices and plugging them in. Decide which blanks should be negative/positive words, and take notice of sentence shifts. Magoosh has a free blog for more tips, if you don't want to buy it.
