I'm interviewing on Tues. and my flight gets in at 8 in the morning, but my interview doesn't start until 11:30. I was just going to take a cab to the dental school and I was just wondering if there is any coffee shops or restaurants close to the dental school where I could hang out for a few hours?? Also, does anyone know if there is a bus or anything from the airport or is cab the only way to go?? Thanks!

There is a light rail you can take from the airport...its like $1.60...maby takes 25 minutes or so...it wasn't a bad ride. Its first and last stop is the airport so it waits there and leaves after a while... here is the link:

You can get off at the stop on baltimore street (same road as school) so just a few blocks away. There is a hospital thats part of the school with a starbucks i think they had said but there should be a coffee shop close by or something. Google it. There is a little deli and seating in the dental school too. Maryland was really impressive...i hope you enjoy it as well

Thanks gatorpredent! I know that I've read that the school isn't in the best area of town. Does the light rail drop you off in a sketchy area or anything? Thanks again! I've heard lots of great things about the school, so I'm really excited!

you should be able to get off at Howard and Baltimore street (stop called: university center- Baltimore St) its only like .4 miles from the school...in the middle of the day...i cant see you having any problem. I thought baltimore was pretty clean and nice...that area didnt seem bad but i guess it can have its bad parts ..... west of the dental school, etc. I think the area is Ok though...i really like maryland...it was pretty great...good Luck! Oh and you can get there before 1130....at like 1115 when i got there half the other students interviewing were there

There definitely should be food places you can find.

I was also really surprised by the area the school is in. I was expecting a fully run down region with a brand new dental school just sticking out radomly due to all the comments I had read. What i actually saw though was a professional school campus which was in walking distance to some of the nicest parts of baltimore. All the building were well maintained and I didnt feel like the area was bad at all.

Keep in mind it is a city, citys are in their nature patchy, but I have seen a hell of alot worse and dont think maryland deserves its strong reputation of being in a ****ty area. I didnt feel sketchy walking around during day time in the slightest. As for after dark, if you use a little common sense i dont see any real problems happening.

Hey congrats on the interview. The area the school is in is totally fine during the day - it's right downtown (not in the ghetto or anything like that). There is a nearby starbucks that you could hang out in for a while, it's about a 5 minute walk (I actually live in the building it's attached to). With your back to the dental school (on West Baltimore St) just walk to your left for a few blocks, you'll see it on the corner of W. Baltimore and Eutaw St. If you have any questions, PM me.
