For those who recently took the exam, Pathoma or Goljan?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I used Goljan text lightly during M2 and tried listening to the audios but only finished a couple of them. During study time I looked at a few chapters worth of the blue notes in the margins of Goljan but felt that it was only recapitulating what was already in First Aid and in UW. Pathology was also my highest scoring category on the USMLE.

Goljan is a good book but there's way more in there than you need, and I have no experience with Pathoma but have heard from others it's a good way to build up a foundation.

BRS Path and practice questions are all I've done, and I'm at 97th%tile in UWorld for pathology through ~800 questions.

I had even encountered a UWorld question on glomus tumors, which was straight out of BRS Path.

Beardman might disagree, but we all have different opinions.

I'd actually do none of the above.

Go through BRS Pathology. That book is the FA of path.

You really think so? I have only used BRS pathology over Med2 but recently got Goljan but haven't opened it yet. I have less than two months for my exam and one of those is a light psych rotation.. You think it's better for me to stick with BRS Path + UWorld incorrects + perhaps some Kaplan QBank or should I try to go over Goljan ??

Thanks!

Yep. 9-1. Pathoma it is.
@RedSoxSuck- How'd your exam go?

ill post more details later. But my every block was fairly the same. Very on par with NBMEs. But i hope i did well or atleast hit my NBME average of last 2 NBMEs.

First aid, pathoma and uworld is ALL you need.

Using both and like them both. I don't take boards until next May or June. My weak spots are physio and Biochem. Advice for these beyond First Aid and BRS? Path and micro are very strong.

Lippincoty and rapid review are awesome reference texts but not high yield. Use fa and then look up topics in either you need help on

For Biochem, I used RR Biochem + FA. And I think using RR Biochem was way too much.

I voted for Pathoma, given your time frame, but I still think Goljan is absolutely phenomenal. I'm listening to Goljan audio before my Pathology module in MS2 where I plan on using RR Path with coursework because it's more comprehensive. I'm through Day 3 of the audio and he is brilliant. Really drives home the big pictures. Closer to the test, I'm definitely going to use Pathoma twice through.

Goljan is great for working out and integrating some great points but hes only great I'd say post-exam when things are fresh and he ties in things together...

As far as pathoma, what can I say, Dr. Sattar is a gift to medicine....what prof will explain EVERY SINGLE LINE in a textbook...exactly, as someone at a top 10 med school, all I can say is yeah I'm learning more from Sattar and I'm filling in only a few gaps + images from lecture notes

I did not use Pathoma, but loved Goljan. I would recommend the book and the audios without hesitattion, but it really depends on personal preference I think. Overall, it was a great integration.

I also used RR Biochemistry. It was a great book, I used it mostly for reference, but my exam asked me what was in FA - vitamins and rate-limiting steps.
