Hi everyone, I'll be attending UHCO in fall 07 & thought it'd be nice for all of the people who are going there to meet. Maybe exchange emails so we know some people at orientation? 🙂 Can we put our emails on here? Well, mine is: [email protected]. Anyone going to UHCO, feel free to email me!!!

I've just been accepted as well. I just found out last Thur!!! I'm super psyched about it, but congrats to you too. 🙂

i just got accepted on friday! so exciting!!!

Congratulations to you all! I had applied to UHCO in October and have not heard anything from them yet 🙁 I have contacted Debbie Magee there and said that my folder was complete but I just have to sit and wait till they send it to committee??? Do you guys know when they will stop doing interviews?

Congrats to you all!!

Can you guys please tell me what you think... I want to apply to UHCO also, since I live in Sugar Land and I can't move elsewhere. I am 30, divorced, and I have a 4 yr old son. I have a bachelor's in biology and a master's in elem. education. But I still want to do optometry, I always have. I took my friend to Opt. Day like 11 years ago, and she ended up going, and I didn't. I got married, moved away, etc. So now, I'm back and still have the same dream. How hard was it for you all to get accepted? Is it doable for someone like me? My GPAs in college were always high, but I've been out for so long now. Any input from you guys would be very appreciated! Thanks, and good luck!!

(Plus, I would have to commute every day from SL to UC campus)

My best friend in OD school was 31 when we started and another friend started at 33. It's definitely do-able! Get a good OAT score, show them you're serious...

I heard that there is someone in last years class that is 47! so you can do it! 😉

I'll be joining the class of '11 too! See ya'll there!

congrats! are you from the texas area?

Nope, I'm actually from KS....so I'll be quite a ways from home 🙂 I'm so pumped up about it though. I loved everything about the school, and I've heard sooo many good things about it from every alumni I've spoken with.

I'm also from Kansas and planning on making the move... When did you have your interview and what part of KS are you from?

I had my interview last Friday and I am from Emporia.

I had my interview the beginning of Jan...about the time we got hit with the huge winter storm. Needless to say, it was nice to be down in 50 degree weather (and amusing seeing everyone bundled up like it was 20 below). I'm originally from Salina, but goin to school at Fort Hays.

Hey guys,
I am deciding between UHCO and UCBSO and I think they're both phenomenal schools. Can you guys share your pros/cons and why you are deciding on UHCO?

wow I met someone in my interview group from KS is that you!? hehe

I didn't even consider UCBSO as a school I wanted to attend, so I don't know anything about it. But, I can tell you that Houston was my top choice.

Basically, you will get top-notch education regardless of what school you attend. Same with money, anywhere you go, school will be expensive. Some more than others, but still pretty pricey. With that in mind, I looked into student life, faculty, that sort of thing to make my decision as far as where I wanted to attend. Being from Kansas, I looked at schools mainly in the midwest, UHCO, UAB, UMSL, NSUCO, and ICO.

I worked for 3 ODs who attended UHCO, ICO, and UAB, and have shadowed and spoke with several who have attended NSUCO, SCO, and UMSL. Each school has gotten nice reviews, but nothing like Houston. Every alum from UHCO I've spoken with has told me that they wished they could trade me spots and go back to school because they loved it so much. Never once have I gotten bad feedback about it, which can't be said about others.

Between the designated test weeks, notes service, student/faculty deck parties, location, student organizations, semester curriculums, faculty, overall student life at the University of Houston, and mostly from the recommendations and advice from several alumni, I went into my interview at UHCO expecting a lot. I was impressed and loved it, and once I was accepted I immediately sealed the deal, before I had even heard back from other schools.

It's a tough decision, but if you're going to live somewhere for at least 4 years, you need to enjoy where you are. Good luck, I think I just rambled on. Hopefully somewhere in there I gave you something helpful!

Oh no, that definitely helped a lot. Thank you for your input 🙂
