ok I am getting nervous a little bit here! Why apartment rents are so high around uop? 1800 and up for just a studio?!! Where should I find a decent place to live for 3 years?! I started with the info (addresses and links) that uop gave me on the interview day but half of them are far away from school and the other half are too expensive! Please tell me where to begin.
Thanks

I share a one-bedroom that's about 5 blocks away from uop for a total of $2,000 - and I only pay $700. craigslist, craigslist, craigslist. you have to spend time going to a LOT of open houses. last summer I probably went to about 30 open houses... it can be a nightmare! a lot of times, it turns into basically in auction. "What's the security deposit, $3,000? I'll pay 5!" ugh..

Thank you!
Yeah I tried going to a couple of open houses this weekend! They weren't even ok! I guess I have to dig more! I don't have a problem sharing with another student though if I can find a decent one!

I'm declining UoP but I thought about this same issue after looking at those prices in the interview packet. I was thinking about renting further away from school and driving to a BART station stop, parking there, and commuting in. This way I would save a lot on rent, live in a bigger place, and use some of those savings toward BART fares. The best part is I would have a car which is a nice luxury to have in Cali during weekends and breaks. The other variation to this plan was to live further away but drive straight to school instead of parking at a BART station. I would rent an unused residential parking space nearby school. Many students do this.

You live in the same bedroom with another dude? Not sure if this is such a good deal.

Where in the hell are you people looking?! I had a studio 1 block away from UoP that was $995 with all utilities included!

If you need a cheaper place, look in the marina or inner richmond.
