Hi Mega,

Yes, some states do allow you to get licensed if you studied at least a 2 year specialty in an ADA acredited school. Some of these states are Texas, Florida, Minnesota, Illiniois, etc. Around 15 or 20 in total. I don't remember all of them.

But you could contact the boards in the states that you are interested in and find out. You could do so by visiting their website. Also the ADA booklet "Licensure in the US" has some info about that. You might want to check it out.

If I remember anything else I'll post it here.

Ok, I just found some of my "notes":

Long ago I wrote to the ADA and asked about this. They replied saying that they do not have that specific information and that I should write to each state board to find out. They were kind enough to at least give me a list of states that MIGHT offer this:

Maryland, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Michingan, Misissipi, New York, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, District of Columbia.

I started to write to some boards, but then got busy with something else and couldn't continue. I did got to confirm these states: Michigan, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin.

These states will allow you to get licensed after completing specialty eduacation in the US.

BUT remember, this was about a year ago. Things could have change from there, so you might want to confirm this on your own and not take what I'm saying for granted.

Also you might want to check what kind of dental license will get if you go this way. I don't know, but maybe some states will only grant you a license in the specific specialty that you studied in the US.

Bottom line: do your homework, do what you have to do, research, research and research. 🙂

bye
