Anyone here a foreign pharmacist or foreign pharmacy graduates? Where are you now? Are you already a pharmacist here? Please post any stories of how you got to where you are at present.

I personally am not but we have a pharmacist in my classes from Korea.

She is taking all of our classes with us and everything.

I worked with a new graduate from India over the summer. Eckerd sponsored her into the country. She got to live in America and Eckerd got to pay her 20K less than the American pharmacists.

Hi!
dgroulx,

Did she take any pharmacy exams here to practice as a Pharmacist at Eckerd?
I'm just curious!

I work with someone who graduated from school in Jordan at walgreens. Not sure of all the details, but she said she has to do like 1500 hours as an intern and then I think she can sit for the licensing exam.

She had to take the NAPLEX, the same as any other graduate. When I joined her, she had just gotten her board results. Eckerd had her working as an intern until then.

did she already have a pharmD?

isn't there some language in some states or US that says you cannot sit for the naplex unless you have a pharm d?

i just figured that was why we have a pharmacist in our classes as i cannot imagine going through school a second time just for kicks!

I suppose she must have had a PharmD, but I never thought to ask.

She could have just takenthe (FPGEE) foreign pharmacy graduate equivalency exam as a pre-requisite for the 1500 hours ( Internship).

That is the first option, Im thinking of doing, then take the national licensure and the State licensure exams( Massachusetts) after the internships. Once Im already a license pharmacist, I'll take the non-traditional PharmD pathway for working pharmacist.

Another option is to take the PCAT and go through the accelerated pharmD program now. Here in Worcester, MA. they offered an accelerated program for transfer pharmacy students as well as foreign graduates for only 3 years. But I guess the amount of time this option takes is longer than the first option.

Well, I wonder how many foreign graduates did the first option, and how many of them also did the second option. I would like to know, which options is better. Any comments are highly appreciated. Thanks and Im looking forward to hear from anyone out there. 😍
